An On Time God!

Isaiah 40:28-31 Mol 9/7/14

Have you noticed that God is frequently late? As I’ve grown older in faith, I’ve become more aware that God follows a different time, almost as if he runs by a different clock. He is frequently late. For the skeptical - among you, allow me to elaborate. Some people are uncomfortable to speak about God in this term. There is a degree of artificiality about our faith that does not permit some people, to see God in ways that are natural to life! Consequently, some cannot bring themselves to speak of God in ways that may appear common or negative. For those of you who feel that way, I ask for to consider the life of Abraham!

Do you remember when God appeared to Abraham in Genesis 18, it was with the intention to tell Abraham that he and Sarah were to finally have a son. Unfortunately, Abraham was 99 years old at the time, and Sarah was 89 years old! Both knew that it was already too late. They knew that it was physiologically impossible for them to have a child! The most troubling questions for God’s people inevitably have to do with his sense of timing. Far too frequently, in our opinion God is late! And so God’s people, are often left to cry out, “When, O Lord? How long, O Lord? Why were you not here when we needed you? Why did you not come? Why are you so late?” How many of us have asked these questions? Well Monument, Yes, God is frequently late!stopped by to encourage your hearts today based on an opposite truth. God may be frequently late, but he is always on time! So there are 3 points the Lord wants us to examine today to encourage us to hold on when we are frustrated by God’s timing. #1 Weed out the Mixture #2 It helps you hear better #3 Plans require Intention.

Saints, Our 1st point is God takes His time to Weed out the Mixture! Please turn to Exodus 32:2-4. Have you ever heard the saying if you sleep with dogs, you gonna end up with fleas!? Why, because you have mixed it up with a dog who transferred what he had, to you! Somebody here knows Ready mix biscuit mix can be a wonderful thing. It helps out people who have busy schedules. It accommodates people (like me) who do not know how to cook! Well, I find a tendency in the human heart to do the same thing with our faith! We sometimes try to formulate a god who will accommodate us. We are just like the Children of Israel who created a ready mix god! They wanted a god, who would accommodate them! So at times, the Almighty God will take His time answering our call to weed out the corrupt or sinful mixture in our lives!

Mol our 2nd point today is God takes His time before answering because it helps you hear better!  Please turn to Revelations 12:10-11. Your ears are in charge of collecting sounds, processing them, and sending sound signals to your brain. And that's not all, your ears also help you keep your balance. So if you bend over to pick up your dog, you won't fall down or even worse fall on your dog! The ear is made up of three different sections: the outer ear, the middle ear, and the inner ear. These parts all work together so you can hear and process sounds. But God takes his time with us to help us hear better! Somebody here knows in Isaiah 55:8-9 God reminds us of a fundamental truth. He says, “My thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways . . . As the heavens are higher that the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts!” Saints, this tells me that God operates on a different thought level!  He has a vantage view that I am incapable of having! 2 Peter 3:8 says, that “with the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day!” Obviously, God runs by a different clock! He functions on a totally different time scale! His time is not our time, but He is an on time, God!

Mol, our 3rd and final point is that God’s plans require intention! Please turn to Jeremiah 29:11. We must understand that God’s promises and plans require a degree of intentionality from God! We gotta prep before The Lord will show up! God intentionally doesn’t always show up when we think, because He understands we still have some preparing to do! The principle is that the Way, or runway, or field has to be prepared before the Lord’s glory can be revealed! So God doesn’t come to our aid in a hurry, but He waits a little while so the obstacles and barriers can be removed just before His promises arrive! Many times in our lives, God is quite obviously late. That is, what we see! That is, the human perception of, his actions. That is, the view we are allowed to have! If we examine our own lives, we will notice all the times that God was late, or that we were certain he was. This view of reality is the most trying one for God’s people. We frequently struggle to make sense of all this when we are told God has promise and plans for our lives. Nevertheless, the curtain has been drawn aside for us! We do have a preview of God’s side of the reality. ! God is frequently late, but he is always on time! Armed with this truth, we can now turn to the most important lesson of faith. Isaiah 40:31states: “They that wait upon the Lord, shall renew their strength; they shall mount up on wings like eagles. They shall run and not be wearied; They shall walk and not faint!” Abraham and Sarah thought that God had appeared too late, but because God came, Isaac was born! Moses may have entertained similar thoughts about God’s timing, but because God came, the Israelites were delivered from Egypt and we are left with the story of the Exodus, the greatest story of deliverance! When God came to Job, a tenfold restoration followed him! All the losses that Job experienced were more than amply compensated. Mary and Martha were certain that Jesus was too late! However, he came and because he did, Lazarus was raised from the dead!
